Fire Department
The Oberpfaffenhofen Special Airport maintains its own plant fire brigade, which is officially recognized by the District Government of Upper Bavaria.
The primary tasks of the firefighters include fire protection and technical assistance in air traffic as well as for buildings, facilities, and installations on the Air Tech Campus.
In addition, the airport fire brigade of Oberpfaffenhofen also provides assistance outside the airport grounds upon request, in accordance with the Bavarian Firefighting Act (BayFwG).
In line with the regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), several airport fire-fighting vehicles (FLF) are available for aircraft fire protection. These vehicles are adapted to the size categories of the aircraft that regularly operate at the Oberpfaffenhofen Special Airport.
The plant fire brigade supports the various research institutions and companies in matters of fire and hazard prevention—for example, during rocket propulsion tests or high‑voltage storage testing. It also ensures safety during flight operations, such as initial and certification flights of aircraft or their subsystems, as well as the use of synthetic fuels.
Following the principle “from plant fire brigades for plant fire brigades,” the Air Tech Campus serves as a training center for the qualification of full‑time industrial fire brigade personnel according to the requirements of, and with certification from, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK).
